How to Maintain Control and Confidence in the AI Age

With the promise of time savings and efficiency, it’s easy to associate AI with automation. The power of AI challenges long-standing workflows and demands a recalibration that makes us all more productive. However, that doesn’t mean letting go of every part of your process.

AI’s benefits are undeniable — according to Canva’s Marketing & AI Report, 70% of marketers believe AI enhances productivity, and 69% say it boosts creativity. The key to moving forward responsibly is addressing the trust gap. Only one-third of marketers say they completely trust generative AI, with the highest concerns about customer (76%), company (75%), and personal data privacy (74%).

Instead of writing off AI as a one-size-fits-all automation tool, see it as a way to expedite specific segments of larger projects. For instance, use AI to summarize meeting transcripts, brainstorm new ideas, and draft outlines. The key is double-checking outputs and providing enough examples and source material to ensure AI is creating something that aligns with your expectations. Once you feel in control enough, start experimenting more, like using AI as an assistant to help draft content or campaigns.

❓ Time to answer some questions

But why?: In the quest to generate the best outputs, there’s a huge focus on prompts and loading them up with enough information and context to best prepare the AI tool. One alternative to hoping you’ve included all the pertinent information is to simply ask the AI model if it has any questions before generating an output.

How it works: At the end of your prompt, include something like, “Do you have any questions that would better prepare you to generate what I need?” Asking this way leaves open the possibility that you have adequately prompted the AI tool. If you give an outright directive of “Start asking me questions about …” you increase the likelihood of the model generating irrelevant queries.

Watch out for: Nothing is foolproof with AI. Even if you ask the tool if it has any questions, it may include one that you already answered in your prompt or in your source material. Pointing it to the answer should reinforce that it will accurately use that information.

Quote of the Week

“I was specifically interested in what makes Sora so unique. It offers something that couldn’t quite be shot with a camera, nor could it be animated in 3D, it was something that could have only existed with this specific technology. The surreal and hallucinatory aspects of AI allow you to explore and discover new ideas that you would have never dreamed of.”
