What’s the Magic Word?
What’s happening: The AI push to automate writing has been emphatic — our recent survey shows nearly 90% of GFCA staff use AI for content creation, yet 59% believe the outputs are too basic and 36% say the outputs aren’t what they want.
Why it matters: While large language models are improving quickly, they still need direction. Prompting an AI tool to “make this better” or “improve this” won’t work if the AI doesn’t understand what those subjective terms mean to you or what you’re actually looking for.
Try this: Have an objective in mind when working with AI tools for content and be thoughtful about the words you’re choosing. Instead of “Improve this LinkedIn post,” try “Elaborate on why businesses should…,” or “Tighten up the language in the second paragraph,” or “Give an analogy for this argument and cite real-world examples.” (Of course, you’ll want to vet those examples and make sure they’re accurate.)
Quote of the Week
“I use ChatGPT to help create marketing material. AI generates 80% of the material, and my input is the remaining 20%. Sometimes I’ll add more of my own voice. Other times I just change the headline. I always remind my clients that AI isn’t a foolproof replacement for your brand voice.”
